Originally these TLHs were called community health centers (CHC) with capacity ranging anywhere from 30 to 50 beds. The process of upgrading was started in the year 2003, when the government had sanctioned 36 hospitals with 100 beds. Thereafter several orders were issued to upgrade another 111 taluk-level hospitals.
At present not all the hospitals have buildings to facilitate 100-beds, it is only after the contractor hands over the fully constructed building to the government, equipment and a new set of beds can come. “Since the contractors have now handed over most of the buildings in December, we have now placed orders for equipment, said Nalini Namoshi District Health Officer of Gulbarga.
