Internship and Placement
Students are assisted throughout the year in seeking employment possibilities. The process starts with students creating strong portfolios with articles and video clips that cover a variety of events and news to be published in college websites, YouTube and magazines, and in outside media. As the year progresses, students are assisted in putting together impressive resumes, and trained to interview with potential employers. HR recruitment specialists are invited to IIJNM to hold workshops to train and assist the students.
IIJNM holds intense placement activity to arrange for job interviews with representatives from media organizations. Several major companies from all over India visit the campus from January during the second semester. Due to Covid, several employers conduct on-line interviews. By the time in-campus placement sessions starts, the graduating class is well prepared to put their best foot forward. The result is that a great majority of students receive job offers from visiting employers. Those who have not found the position they seek are assisted in finding employment in the geographical areas they wish to work in.
Students are also assisted in finding internship opportunities that could culminate in jobs. The faculty assists in arranging these internships based on the needs of the media organization, which give students the first-hand experience of working in a media operation. As a result, most interns receive job offers at these media organizations at the completion of their internships.
In the recent past years, most graduating students received attractive starting job offers, some more than one, during the placement weeks; over 95% of the graduates received well-paying job offers by the end of the academic year. The success of our placement activity is unmatched by any other journalism college.
Schedule and Contact Details
The “campus placement week” was scheduled for the week of March 14, 2022. Due to coronavirus situation, on-campus interviewers with potential employers was rescheduled to later date. However, in the mean time, Skype and other forms of video interviews are being scheduled with companies who are available to conduct them. While there might be delays in hiring by employers, we expect all our graduates to receive job offers in due course.
The Career Placement week is a culmination of a gruelling year spent reporting, writing and shooting events, giving headlines, talking anchor leads, and a host of other duties that make our students shine among aspiring journalists.
Typically hosted by us during the second half of March and the first week of April, the Career Placement Week sees the top media houses coming to select our students. Last year over 70% of our students received offers within this week.
