Workshop on tools for sensitive & objective reporting of Violence Against Girls and Women (VAWG)

ABOUT EVENT

The British Deputy High Commission, Bengaluru, Thomson Reuters Foundation and the Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media invite you to a workshop on tools for sensitive & objective reporting of Violence Against Girls and Women.

With the MeToo movement gaining strength by the day, it becomes imperative for journalists and reporters to gain some amount of sensitivity in their reportage of not just the movement, but the entire gamut of issues revolving around it.

On December 4 and 5, 2018, some of the best brains from the industry will hold a workshop on Reporting on VAWG exclusively for journalists from Bangalore.  Rosemary Arackaparambil from Reuters Foundation and Anubha Bhosale (formerly of CNN-IBN) will hold the workshop.

We request you to nominate four or five young journalists from your media house to attend the workshop.

The workshop will be held at the IIJNM campus from 10 AM to 4 PM. Participants will receive a certificate at the end of the workshop.

Speaker Profiles:

1. Rosemary Arackaparambil   

Rosemary is a communications trainer, former journalist, and editor, with 20 years’ experience in international and local media organizations. She was a senior journalist for Reuters in Mumbai or 15 years where she held roles as a reporter, editor, and manager. She built a pan-India team of over 40 financial journalists during this period. Rosemary has since trained for the Foundation on a wide range of themes, including general news reporting, news judgement, modern slavery, health and communications.

2.  Anubha Bhonsle  

Anubha Bhonsle is an award winning journalist and author with a body of work reporting on politics, conflict and gender. She has written long form narrative pieces, produced award winning documentaries for CNN-News18, New Delhi Television, The New York Times, The Wilson Centre and Women Under Siege. Her book of reportage, “Mother, Where’s My Country?” traces the life in Manipur, a state in India’s northeast living under the shadow of the gun. She has won many awards including the 2012 Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism, 2013 Chameli Devi Award for Outstanding Woman Media Person in India and Asian TV Award for Best Cross Platform Content .
