IIJNM hosts journalism students from UTS
The Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media is hosting eight journalism students from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and their professors Bruce Mutsvairo and Christine Kearney on their two-week study tour to India. The foreign correspondent initiative is meant to train journalists to broaden their understanding of the industry at an international level.
IIJNM conducted a three-day workshop for the students. The sessions were aimed at increasing awareness about the city and the role of journalism in various aspects of the city’s functioning: politics, business, social media etc.
The UTS students have partnered with trainee journalists at IIJNM in order to complete news stories about issues they have identified. The partnerships open avenues for academic collaboration and develop an understanding of the nuances of journalistic practice in different contexts. The tour also includes industry visits, interaction with experts in the field, and practical application of ideas discussed during the training sessions.
The students, accompanied by IIJNM staff visited Doordashan offices and met with experienced journalists at the Deccan Herald newspaper office recently.
